En inglis:

Chennai 03/02/2014.

In this letter, I am writing about my friend Ramesh, his home and his family. Ramesh and his parents along with his grandfather live in Thoothukudi. Ramesh is the eldest among the four children. He is 37 years old. The next is Uma, his sister, who is 27 years old.  Uma is married, and lives with her husband in Chennai. After Uma, it’s Akilesh, who is 25 years old, who is divorced.  He lives alone in Kerala.  The last one is Seema, who is 22 years old. She is single, a student.

Ramesh’s parents are very old.  His father is 82 years old, and his mother is 75 years old.  Ramesh’s grandfather is 92 years old who is very happy to spend time with newspapers and TV.  Ramesh works for a garment factory near his town.  His wife is a home-maker. They don’t have kids.

I would like to write something about Ramesh’s grand home in Thoothukudi. The house has a big front space with grass. The roof of the house is made of Mangalore type tiles.  It has 6 rooms, one big living hall, and a kitchen. The entire house has heating facility as well as air-conditioning.  There is no terrace in the house though. On the back side, there’s a medium size swimming pool. Beside the swimming pool is the entrance to the garden which is carefully planned and maintained. It has several varieties of trees like mango, coconut, and some medicinal plants too. The garden also has some exotic flower plants which grow in hot climate. There’s a small windmill on one corner of the garden, which generates a little bit of electricity everyday. It also has the mechanism to make the water flow along the different pipes to the various plants and trees. Ramesh takes pride in maintaining his home.

Spanish !

I got introduced to Spanish in a very funny way. I was on a job break at that time, and I used to play some online games which were popular at that point of time. Through one of the games, I got a few regular acquaintances who were also playing the same game. Then, we became friends and started interacting over social networks. And some of those friends were from the Latin America.

The most frequently used expression by them at that point of time was ‘Donde eres’, and I was not at all tired in repeatedly answering them ‘Vivo India!’, and then to get the exclamation from them in reply ‘Ah !’.

After a few years, I got interested in exploring about Spanish language, and found that it is the second most spoken language in the entire world, next to the first Chinese Mandarin. I was surprised that English is not the first one or two. Or may be it is catching up, but then, as far as Spanish is concerned, it’s spoken in all countries of South America except Brazil (which speaks Portuguese), Mexico, United States of America, the Caribbean nations, Spain and some portions of North Africa.

There’s so much of trade happening between the Spanish speaking world and China. Latin population is getting much influential in United States of America.

Well, folks, isn’t that a good enough motivation to learn a language?

I could have chosen to learn Chinese Mandarin to start with, and even now I can, but Spanish felt sweet and lively to me than Chinese. May be some day, I will learn Chinese Mandarin too! But that’s later.

Hasta La Vista !
